Surfers Beware!!!
Owning your own home has been part of the American dream for longer than anyone can remember. And buying that home is one of the most important investment decisions you'll ever make. So be sure to do it in a way that makes sense!

Until fairly recently, information about available housing was accessible only through members of the real estate community. But the Internet has changed all that. Prospective buyers are increasingly using the Internet in their home searches, accessing a wealth of information with anonymity in the privacy of their own homes. And that's a great thing! As long as those buyers understand and appreciate the limitations of the medium and the information in it.

With respect to housing selection, surfing the net is a great way to get a general sense of the types and prices of housing in a specific geographic area. But that's about it! It tells you next to nothing about what's really important, i.e. the character of neighborhoods, the lifestyle issues that will impact your decision, environmental hazards, suitability of a property for your uses, etc. Remember, the devil is in the details and those details are not on the Net.

And don't be mislead by all those pictures, good or bad. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it's not worth seeing the scene in person. Nor is it LIKE seeing the house in person. So whatever you do, don't eliminate a property just because you didn't like a picture. Remember the Internet contains misinformation too. After all, you have no way of knowing if the picture you're looking at is even of the property described!

The home that you decide to purchase will impact your quality of life in many important ways! You owe it to yourself to make the most informed, intelligent decision possible. The Internet is only a small slice of the information pie. The local real estate professional who specializes in buyer representation is the rest! E-mail me today for the latest Community Guide!
